Bert Haandrikman: A morning show has to start at six o’clock

Bert Haandrikman has been presenting the morning show on NPO Radio 5 since last month. The morning program starts at 06:00 am and not, as with his predecessor Jeroen van Inkel, at 07:00 am. “Radio starts at six. If you want to connect with other channels and compete, you just have to start at six and not at seven, ”says Bert.

Also SLAM! and Radio Veronica recently got a new morning program, both starting at 7:00 am. Bert: “In all radio laws, both in Europe and in the rest of the world, you see that radio starts at six o’clock. I hope to shift that a bit on Radio 5. ”

For Bert, presenting a morning program took some getting used to, he admits of podcast ‘This Was The Radio’. “I’m not actually a morning person at all, but the NPO said: ‘Bert, we’re calling you to the front’. There was actually no ‘no’ at all. ”

Extra alarm clock

Bert says because of the troubles around Giel Beelen, that overslept several times for his program on NPO Radio 2, having taken extra measures himself. “I bought an extra alarm clock because of the news from Giel. Everyone laughs at him, but he is also just a very hard worker, who is always busy with radio. ”

The first alarm clock of the Radio 5 presenter rings at five past four. “If I don’t respond to the group app before five o’clock, someone from the editorial office will call me on my home line. I’ve delineated it all. If I sleep through six alarm clocks, it must be really crazy. ”
