Berrettini out: after the injury and the operation miss Montecarlo, Madrid and Rome

The announcement of the Roman on his social networks, the recovery time after surgery on the right hand is lengthened: “We do not want to force”

A decision that hurts a lot, the one that Matteo Berrettini was forced to make. The blue, operated on his right hand last week for edema on his little finger, will in fact miss the next three Masters 1000 to promote the healing process. “Following the medical advice of the experts, my team and I have decided not to force recovery times”, writes Matteo on his Instagram profile, where he broke the news to his fans. “I am therefore forced to retire from the tournaments of Monte-Carlo, Madrid and Rome, thus allowing myself the time necessary to reach the best form”.

Difficult decision

“Not participating in these events, especially in Rome, was an extremely difficult decision which, however, I believe to be the right one to be able to return to the highest levels. Thanks so much for your support. I can’t wait to see you on the field soon ”, concluded Berrettini, who last year reached the final in Madrid and the round of 16 of the Internazionali d’Italia. The appointment with the second Grand Slam of the season, Roland Garros, is set for next May 22nd, where hopefully the blue will be at the starting line to defend the quarter-finals.

New girlfriend?

Beyond the physical problems, in the meantime the number 1 in Italy continues to be talked about also for the extra-field dynamics. Back in Europe for the operation after the missed appointment in Miami and fresh from breaking up with his historical girlfriend Alla Tomljanovic, Berrettini would have been spotted in the Eternal City in the company of a new flame. It would be the American model Meredith Mickelson, who last weekend published stories in the same location as Matteo, precisely on a balcony of the Anantara Palazzo Naiadi hotel. Some would even have spotted them hand in hand out to a well-known club in Rome. But are two clues actually enough to test?
