The two projects “Tram Kleinwabern” and “Renovation Center Wabern” are not without controversy. A total of 75 objections were received as part of the communication to the public. This was announced on Wednesday by Bernmobil, the canton of Bern and the municipality of Köniz.
The projects aim to improve access to public transport, make pedestrian and bicycle traffic safer and optimize road connections. On the one hand, the “Nüni-Tram” is to be extended to the new BLS S-Bahn station in Kleinwabern. On the other hand, the Seglichenstrasse in the center of Wabern needs a bit of a makeover.
Most of the objections come from private individuals, only seven from institutions, organizations and parties. There are objections above all to the “Tram Kleinwabern” project.
The disputes concern in particular the speed regime, as noted by Bernmobil, the canton of Bern and the municipality of Köniz. They form the building owners association of the two projects. Other topics are the intended land acquisition, the construction process, and station situations.
The building community is now looking into the concerns. If no agreement can be reached with the opponents, the Federal Office of Transport (FOT) decides on the opponents in the first instance.
