Berlinale wants to award gender-neutral prizes

The Berlinale is scheduled to take place in February 2021 despite the corona pandemic. The International Film Festival in Berlin announced on Monday that a “physical festival” was planned. “The greatest possible security” should be guaranteed for all guests. The Berlinale (February 11-21, 2021) is one of the most important film festivals in the world, alongside Cannes and Venice.

“Best Actress” and “Best Actor” no longer exist

In future, the acting prizes will no longer go to a “best actress” and a “best actor”, but will be awarded for the best leading and supporting role. “No longer separating the awards in the acting field by gender is a signal for a more gender-sensitive awareness in the film industry,” announced the directors Mariette Rissenbeek and Carlo Chatrian.
