Ben Affleck strikes back at the criticism

– They said that I had blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism and that I was “caught”. It makes me seem like the worst, most insensitive, stupidest, terrible guy, Affleck said on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday.

The statement comes after the actor has garnered sharp criticism for things he has said in the radio program “The Howard Stern Show”, where Affleck opened up the marriage with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

The couple was married from 2005 to 2018, but divorced already in 2015. In 2018, it became clear that Garner had paid for the ex-husband’s rehabilitation, as a result of alcohol problems.

In the radio interview, Affleck says that he would still have had problems with alcohol if he and Garner had not separated.

– We would probably be in each other’s throats, and I would probably still drink. One of the reasons I started drinking was that I felt trapped, he says The Howard Stern Show.

Strong reactions

The statements made it boil on social media. Fans believe it is unacceptable that Affleck blames the ex-wife for her drinking problems.

‘Do you blame your ex-wife for drinking? You were drunk before you married her! “, Writes a Twitter user.

“Talking bad about the mother of your children makes you a terrible father and a showerhead,” writes another.

– It is not true

Affleck says he investigated how the interview turned out after it created so much fuss. He believes the radio channel has taken the statements out of context to create “clickbait”, he writes ABC News.

– They had literally taken the conversation I had for two hours and made it seem as if I said the exact opposite of what I said, Affleck says.

He says he further in the conversation told about how much he and his ex-wife respect each other and how they have always put their children first, writes CNN.

– I would never make my children believe that I would ever talk bad about their mother, Affleck says.

– It is not true. I can not believe it. It is the exact opposite of who I am and what I believe in, he says.
