The board of directors of the Pro League advised Thursday to stop the current season and to declare league-leader Club Brugge as champion. That advice is yet to be ratified on April 15 at a general meeting of all clubs.
UEFA sent a letter to all 55 national federations on Thursday requesting that the leagues not be stopped immediately. The European Football Association points out that countries could otherwise lose European tickets for next season.
The RBFA and the Pro League say they “would not agree to an approach that would force leagues to continue their season in the current general health crisis, on pain of being excluded from next season’s European club competitions”.
Belgium and UEFA will continue talking next week
The RBFA and the Pro League indicate that they strongly support solidarity within European football. “From this solidarity, we advocated a policy that would make it possible to deal with this situation while respecting the specific context of each competition.”
