Belgian Watchdog Shows Fixedline Telecom Providers by Address with Map Coverage – IT Pro – News

The Belgian regulator BIPT has supplemented its atlas of fixed telecommunication services with additional data. Users can now see at the address level which landline service providers offer services and what type of network they are. Virtual vendors are now also displayed on the map.

From coverage map the coverage data by municipality has already been shown, but from Friday it will also be possible to do it at the address level, writes the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications. Users can enter a street and postcode or municipality, where the atlas shows what download and upload speeds are available and whether a provider offers copper, cable or fiber optic services.

Another addition is that users can filter the coverage of download speeds to 400Mbit/s and 1000Mbit/s at a territorial level. Previously this only ranged from 1 Mbit/s to 100 Mbit/s, with anything above that classified as “100 Mbit/s or more”. The map now also shows data from virtual providers such as Orange, Edpnet, Scarlet, Mobile Vikings and Zuny. Regional service providers such as Hermes Telecom, Fastfiber and Fastic will follow later. In addition, national operators Proximus, Telenet, VOO, Fluvius, Fiberklaar and Unifiber have shared information with BIPT for the card.

BIPT has been offering the coverage map since 2018. The data is updated at least once a year. The Institute introduced in May another map tracking ftth fiber launch. This map also shows the fiber optic networks that will be implemented in the near term.
