A Flemish family on holiday on Tenerife is concerned about their return flight. Or especially about the stopover on Gran Canaria. “During our vacation that became a red zone. Then it is not possible that we have to sit on the same plane with those travelers, can it? ”

The family of three was lucky. While all of Spain turned red last week, Tenerife remained orange. Extra vigilance, that was what was asked. No testing or quarantine upon return. “But on Wednesday we will fly back to Ostend. We already knew in advance that there was a stopover in Gran Canaria, but we did not expect it to continue now, now that Gran Canaria is red. We are doing everything possible to comply with the measures, but TUI apparently does not mind placing us on the same plane with travelers from a red zone. ”
The tour operator confirms that the layover will normally take place. “That’s not a problem either,” says TUI spokesman Piet Demeyere. “People just sit there during the stop until the next passengers are on board. Perhaps they will be split up by destination on the plane. If everyone adheres to the rules, contamination on board is not possible. Even more than usual, during such flights people will make sure that everyone follows everything carefully. So people have to wear their mouth masks, don’t walk around and the filters ensure that the air is refreshed every three minutes. ”
