Belgian doctors warn that the situation of some of the 450 illegal migrants who have been on hunger strike for weeks in Brussels is precarious. Some of them have been hospitalized. Some are in such bad shape that they have been taken to hospital. There they would refuse treatment so that they can continue their action, Belgian media report.
The group hopes to enforce a residence permit with their hunger strike. Since May 23, the ‘sans papiers’ (undocumented migrants) have been refusing food. They reside in the Beguinage Church and also on the campuses of two universities in the city.
Four of them have their mouths sewn shut. They can only drink through a straw.
