“Belgian Crypto Platform Bit4You Shuts Down, Leaving €6.5 Million Worth of Cryptocurrency Blocked”

The Belgian crypto platform Bit4You, one of the oldest in our country with more than 40,000 customers, has shut down its activities. This reports various media on Thursday and is confirmed in a message on the platform’s website. According to business newspaper L’Echo, 6.5 million euros in cryptocurrency are blocked in this way.

Bit4You refers on its website to problems with one of its main service providers: CoinLoan in Estonia, which no longer has the required registration as a virtual asset custodian. “CoinLoan was issued an insolvency order early this week (…) but that does not mean that the virtual currencies CoinLoan holds will not be recovered,” the Bit4You website reads.

“In order to best protect the interests of our clients and for the sake of fairness, we have suspended the execution of activities through the platform,” the trading platform said. “We will continue to take all necessary steps to protect and preserve our clients’ assets and will keep you informed of developments.”

Bit4You has been active since 2018 and, according to business newspaper L’Echo, would have 41,800 customers who had crypto investments worth 6.5 million euros. That money is temporarily blocked. At the end of last month, it was announced that a number of directors – founders of the very first hour – had resigned from the platform and a new CEO was appointed: Benoit Seys. Bernard Lemercier became chairman.
