Militia OMON began detaining the demonstrators as soon as they appeared on the scene. In this way, an attempt was made to prevent the formation of a column of demonstrators. However, at one point there were so many protesters that the arrests were unsuccessful. The protesters formed two columns at the beginning of the Winners’ Prospectus and walked towards Maksim Bahdanovich Street, and not – as in previous weeks – towards Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s residence.

Belarus. Tens of thousands of protesters in Minsk
On the way, they stopped near the obelisk “Minsk-hero city”, where traditionally there are columns from various districts of the capital. Independent media estimate that w prote¶cie tens of thousands of people are already participating. Demonstrators chant: “Long live Bia³oru¶“and hold historical white-red-white flags. According to the activist and journalist from Belarus Franak Vyachorko, there are only about 100,000 people in the protest in Minsk. The” Nasha Niva “newspaper gives the number of 50,000.
Demonstrations and rallies are also held in other cities in Belarus – including Gomel, Brest, Bobruisk and Grodno, where there have been numerous arrests. Belarusian journalist Hanna Liubakova published a video of a protest in Gomel, where militiamen used tear gas and stun grenades against protesters.
