Belarus Recognizes Radio Liberty Website as ‘Extremist Formation’ – Abroad – News

Already in the beginning of December, the Minsk court considered the profiles of the Belarusian editorial office of “Radio Freedom” on social networks to be extremist.

According to the editorial board at the time, the list of extremist materials included the Telegram channels of all major independent media in Belarus.

Since the rigged presidential elections in 2020 and the ensuing mass protests, the Belarussian authorities have launched an unprecedented attack on the media, civil society and political activists.

Thousands of criminal cases have been filed, 945 people are in custody or convicted for political reasons, according to the Vyasa human rights center.

Dozens of editions closed, including the largest independent media “tut.by”.

The list of extremist formations includes 24 associations, foundations, Telegram channels and the media, as well as the Belarusian-language Polish TV channel Belsat and the information agency Belpan.
