Belarus excluded from Eurovision Song Contest | Entertainment

entertainment">Two weeks ago an entry was already registered that received a lot of criticism. It was performed by Galasy Zmesta, a band that is very supportive of President Lukashenko and actually always makes political songs. The text contains references to the political crisis in the country with the aim of putting the current regime in the country in a positive light.

entertainment">Earlier this week, Belarus submitted a new song to the organization, but this entry, which has not been announced, is also too politically sensitive. The song was performed again by Galasy Zmesta.

Political messages

entertainment">According to a statement by the European Broadcasting Union, the broadcaster that organizes the annual songs event, the new entry has been carefully studied. But in the end could not withstand the test of criticism. Political messages are not allowed in the Eurovision Song Contest.

entertainment">Initially Belarus would send the duo VAL to Rotterdam. They won the national selection last year. But in September, the two were told that the broadcaster no longer wanted their contribution for 2021. The reason for this was that the two artists had spoken negative about last year’s presidential elections that were officially won by Lukashenko. The Netherlands does not recognize this result, just like many other countries. Since the election results, the Eastern European country has been the scene of months of political protests.

entertainment">In total, 39 countries will perform in Rotterdam in May of this year during the Eurovision Song Contest.
