The abstention, record, in the 1st round of the regional, did not spare the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. 67.41% of the voters registered on the electoral rolls did not vote in the region. Thus, Fabienne Grébert, the EELV candidate, will be in the second round on Sunday after collecting 4.58% of the votes of those registered. Andrea Kotarac, the RN candidate, also qualified for the second round, won 3.91% of the votes of those registered.

Lyon Capital offers you this Tuesday a report on the big quack in the distribution of professions of faith before the 1st round of regional (read here).

The abstention broke records in the 1st round in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. 67.41% of the 5,403,253 people registered on the electoral rolls in the region did not vote. More than 88% of the inhabitants registered on the electoral lists, in Vaulx-en-Velin, did not vote last Sunday during the first round.

A record abstention that encourages reading the results from different angles.

So, if we look in terms of votes cast:

  • Laurent Wauquiez (LR) is in the lead with 43.79% (750,200 votes)
  • Fabienne Grébert (ELLV) comes second with 14.45% (247,541 votes)
  • Andréa Kotarac (RN) is third with 12.33% (211,216 votes)
  • Najat Vallaud-Belkacem (PS) is fourth with 11.40% (195,389 votes)
  • Bruno Bonnell (LREM) is the first eliminated with 9.87% (169,056 votes)
  • Cécile Cukierman (PC-Insoumis) is sixth with 5.56% (95,305 votes)

But, if we look at the percentage of registered voters, the figures are very low … It’s simple, there are 5,403,253 people registered on the electoral lists in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (out of 8,000,000 d ‘inhabitants). Of these 5.4M registered, only 1.7M voted.

14 voters registered on the electoral lists out of 100 voted for Laurent Wauquiez

This gives, in percentages of the votes of registered voters:

  • Laurent Wauquiez (LR): 13.88% of the votes of registered voters
  • Fabienne Grébert (ELLV): 4.58% of the votes of registered voters
  • Andréa Kotarac (RN): 3.91% of the votes of registered voters
  • Najat Vallaud-Belkacem (PS): 3.62% of the votes of registered voters
  • Bruno Bonnell (LREM): 3.13% of the votes of registered voters
  • Cécile Cukierman (PC-Insoumis): 1.76% of the votes of those registered

In summary, 14 voters registered on the electoral lists out of 100 in the region voted for the outgoing president, Laurent Wauquiez. We are far from “plebiscite“described in 6 minutes flat by Jérémie Bréaud, the LR mayor of Bron and head of the list of Laurent Wauquiez for the regional in the Metropolis of Lyon.

As for the green “dynamic”, hammered home by many elected environmentalists in the region since Sunday evening, it brought together only 4 voters registered on the electoral lists … out of 100. Less than 4 voters registered on the electoral lists on 100 also voted for Andréa Kotarac (RN) for whom, still in 6 minutes flat, “the dynamic really exists“for his party. 3 registered voters out of 100 voted for the presidential majority candidate, Bruno Bonnell.

Let us recall that in legislative elections for example – to elect deputies – the 2 candidates who came out on top can remain in the second round. The following candidates can remain only if they obtain a number of votes at least equal to … 12.5% of the registered voters. This threshold of 12.5% of registrants is often referred to as the “alert threshold”. Laurent Wauquiez barely exceeds this alert threshold. As for the two other candidates who will lead a list in the second round in the region, Fabienne Grébert and Andréa Kotarac, they are very far from it. Only 4 voters registered on the electoral lists out of 100 voted for them in the first round.
