The canton of Bern has released 14 people from deportation custody because they cannot be flown to their home country for the time being because of the Corona crisis. Among them are three convicted drug dealers.

Bernese security director Philippe Müller (FDP) confirmed an article in the “Berner Zeitung” on request on Saturday. The Albanians were released on instruction from the competent court. According to Müller, they cannot be prevented from going underground. Monitoring is not legally permissible.

Six rejected asylum seekers among freed people
The 14 people were released from so-called administrative immigration law because it is uncertain when which flight connections will be resumed. “Another arrest would have been disproportionate,” said Müller.
–
Among the freed people are six asylum seekers whose application has been rejected and are awaiting deportation, the BZ writes, citing the cantonal security directorate: In addition there are five so-called Dublin cases: Asylum seekers, who would have to be returned to that European country, in the first time they were registered.

Cases are “individually and differentially examined”
“I refused to release everyone in administrative immigration law, as the red-green politicians and the democratic lawyers have recently asked me to do,” Müller added to the Keystone-SDA news agency.

Each case is examined individually and differentiated. Those who pose a significant threat to public security and order should not be released because of temporary enforcement difficulties. In the case of the three dealers, the competent court felt that an extension of the detention was also disproportionate from the point of view of public security. (SDA / rad)
