She was brought to the theater by her father, an enthusiastic volunteer, and by Disman’s radio children’s ensemble, who also offered her the role of the granddaughter of the blind violinist Mareš in Tylova Fidlovačka on the Vinohrady stage alongside František Kovářík. After graduating in acting from the Prague DAMU, she got a job in the theater in Benešov, after which Jan Werich hired her in his ABC Theatre. After its merger with the Municipal Theaters of Prague in 1962, she became one of the stars of the heavily cast ensemble for thirty years.

In the era of Ota Ornesta, she shone here in the roles of the classical and contemporary repertoire, from comedic to psychologically complicated characters. Her double role in Agatha Christie’s Crown Witness was unforgettable.

At the beginning of the 1990s, she found a new theatrical home in the intimate space of the Ungelt Theater, which made her concentrated acting stand out.

She won the Thalia Award in 1997 for her role as Gertie Matthews in Stormy Spring, and the second in 2017 for Lifetime Achievement in Drama. In Ungelt, she again met her colleagues from the Municipal Theaters of Prague, Petr Kostka and František Němec in the play Ledňáček, with Václav Postránecký in the production Fígl, and performed a perfect stage partnership with them.

Her acting has always radiated great intelligence, sarcastic insight and humor, feminine charm and elegance, the ability to act through the text and, last but not least, the necessary joy of acting. “I loved that I could hide behind roles and live strange lives,” says the actress, who experienced a not-so-happy childhood and personal life.

A number of opportunities were also offered to her by film (Třiacet stribrných krepelek, Vim ze že vrah, Chronicle of a Hot Summer, Angelic Face, Thanks for Every New Morning, Returnable Bottles, Life is a Ball, etc.) and television, which testified to her sense of acting detail and the art of conversation.
