Beatriz Gutiérrez Müller and Jill Biden lead a poetry and music session in front of high school students

MEXICO CITY (approx.) At the ceremony, the Mexican historian said that if the American first lady invited her to her country, she would go and give this sample to the students of that country.

“As a teacher, I am very sure that it is a great experience that you will bring to your country and that if you invite us we will go, right? Want to share once again how much Mexico and the United States have in common? I would love to, if he invites us, let’s go, a little, but come on, we can bring the mariachis of Sedena”, said Gutiérrez Müller at the end of the event.

First, he assured that both have been doing chemistry since the beginning, “we love teaching, languages, conversing with others, teaching and also learning”.

Jill, who is a college-level teacher, acknowledged that she found many similarities to Mexican, “our love of literature and our passion for learning and helping others learn. Our friendship has grown and emerged from that love we share, so yesterday when I saw Beatriz it was like meeting an old friend. Thank you for making my visit to Mexico City something so special.”

He recalled that relations between Mexico and the United States have changed over the years, both in the alliance and in other aspects, but the deep ties that unite them are the same.

“We both share the belief that freedom of belief, of expression and of the press is the foundation of democracy and that the voice of the people can never be silenced. We believe that family is what makes us whole, that those bonds, forged or founded, created by luck or by choice, they give us a refuge from the anguish of life, it is the strength to face the pains we have in life and a home from which we can never be taken away (…) the love for our countries that drives us to keep fighting for justice and opportunity,” he added.

In another part of the speech, he told the minors present in the Treasury Room that “your voices are louder and more powerful than you think”.

Gutiérrez Müller explained to the students that this national reading strategy of the Mexican government is a celebration that takes place in all states of the country and alternates reading with music, dance and oratory. On this occasion there was music from Veracruz and mariachis from the Ministry of National Defense, as well as the band La Santa Cecilia.

“Reading is an act of priceless linguistic beauty, and a plurality of voices. The book is the center of attraction, the king of the party, it is a cult object not to be left intact but to be picked up and seen with one’s eyes. This fandango is of particular importance since it is given within the framework of the North American summit, to them and their peoples, to all of us, we would like nothing greater that with these initiatives we transform the consciences of young people ”, he expressed.

Eventually the reading was entrusted to the voice of officials such as the Secretaries of Public Education, Leticia Ramírez; of Culture, Alejandra Frausto; Mexican poet Nadia López García and poet Rubí Huerta Norberto, who read their own work; Actor Daniel Giménez-Cacho and a student who read another fragment were also invited. Among the other works they read were those of the Veracruz poet Rubén Bonifaz Nuño and Ada Limón.
