LEADERS OF LAW. In 2021, BCF Avocats d’affaires experienced the strongest increase in its turnover in absolute dollars in its history. “After 25 years of sustained growth, this is not insignificant,” notes managing partner Me Pierre Allard.

The firm notably benefited from the conjunction of several factors which fueled the M&A market. “Many baby-boomer entrepreneurs want to sell their business, there is a lot of money available and many foreign investors are turning to Quebec,” summarizes Me Allard.

Among other things, BCF advised Baylis Medical Company, a firm specializing in innovative medical devices in the fields of cardiology and the spine, which sold part of its activities to Boston Scientific Corporation for more than 2 billion dollars.

Since M&A mandates require the collaboration of lawyers from several fields of practice, such as business, environmental, employment and real estate law, they have kept the firm very busy. “In a context where resources remain difficult to find, we must manage mandates very effectively to support this rate of growth,” acknowledges Me Allard. We also pamper our professionals like never before, in order to keep them with us. »

The managing partner has also noticed an increase in cases related to technical disputes, among other things caused by the fact that the pandemic has caused problems not always foreseen in the contracts between companies and their suppliers.
