BCCI Prepared to Retrieve Removed Player for Shreyas Iyer’s Injury, States Southlive

With Shreyas Iyer out of the WTC final due to injury, the selectors are considering recalling Hanuma Vihari to the squad. After Hanuma Vihari was dropped from the Central contract this year, it was considered by many to be the end of his career. But the selectors have been forced to recall him as the Indian batting line-up has been decimated by injuries and other factors.

Shreyas was a key player for us. No doubt his injury is a big setback. Hanuma is being discussed. He is a very experienced player and has done well against Australia in the past. He also has good experience playing in England. A senior BCCI official said the selectors will take a decision on that during the selection meeting.

The team for the WTC finals is expected to be announced in the first week of May. Hanuma Vihari has had his ups and downs throughout his career in India. He last played a Test for India last year in Birmingham, England. Following his poor performance, he was dropped from central contracts by the BCCI.

Suryakumar Yadav is expected to retain his place despite his worrying form. Shubman Gill in current form has cemented his place in all three formats. The youngster is a sure thing in the WTC final squad. The team management also has a lot of faith in KL Rahul. So, he will retain his position at least in England. It can be expected that Rahul will open with Rohit Sharma. If that happens, Gill may be tested in the middle order.
