In his last game before the winter break and the World Cup in Qatar, Rasenballsport Leipzig jumped up to second place in the table, at least temporarily Football league done behind Bayern. The cup winners beat Werder Bremen 2-1 (1-0) on Saturday.
Bayern followed suit in the evening. They won easily 2-0 (1-0) at bottom side FC Schalke 04 and are six points clear of Leipzig.
Bayer Leverkusen increased the misery of the new table 16 with a 2-0 (1-0). VfB Stuttgart and moved towards midfield with a third consecutive league win. Hertha BSC ended the difficult year with a 2-0 (1-0) victory over 1. FC Köln and overcame Stuttgart in the relegation battle. After a 1-0 (0-0) victory over the troubled FC Augsburg, VfL Bochum are just one point behind VfB. VfL Wolfsburg won 2-1 (1-1) against TSG Hoffenheim.
In the last game on matchday 15 before the start of the World Cup, SC Freiburg and 1. FC Union Berlin have a chance for second place in a direct duel on Sunday (17:30). If pursuers Bayern draw, Eintracht Frankfurt could top both sides by beating FSV Mainz 05 (15:30). (dpa)
