Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid: Kim Min-jae Errors Criticized by Thomas Tuchel in Champions League Semi-final Draw

Bayern Munich failed to hit Real Madrid yield two errors Kim Min-jae. Thomas Tuchel criticized the appearance of this South Korean defender.

Bayern vs Madrid ended in a 2-2 draw in the first leg of the semi-finals Champions League at the Allianz Arena, Wednesday (1/5/2024) early morning WIB. Madrid led 1-0 in the first half with a goal from Vinicius Junior.

The hosts were able to take the lead in the second half through a Leroy Sane goal and a Harry Kane penalty. El Real avoided defeat after Vinicius scored again, this time from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute.

In this game, Die Roten was stronger with 52 percent possession of the ball compared to Madrid who registered 48 percent. Bayern also attacked with a total of 14 shots with five on goal. Madrid made 10 attempts with four on target.

It can be said that Madrid’s two goals in this game were born out of errors in Bayern’s back line, especially Kim Min-jae. Kim was frustrated by Vinicius’ movements and lost the race when he chased Kroos’ pass.

Meanwhile, in the second goal, Kim tackled Rodrygo in the penalty box. It was considered that this break was not necessary because close to Kim there was still Eric Dier who would help him cover Rodrygo.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel openly criticized Kim’s mistakes in this game. He thought the South Korean defender appeared too aggressive.

“He was too ‘passionate’ twice. He made his first move too early against Vinicius in the first goal and was caught by Toni Kroos’ pass. He speculated and was too aggressive. Unfortunately there was another mistake there on the second goal. It was five against two, we had the numerical advantage “There is no need for a strong defense against Rodrygo,” said Tuchel, quoted by Imiasanmia.

“Just like Eric was going to help, he said [Kim] let it go [Rodrygo]. Unfortunately for their quality, these mistakes were punished. But yes, it happens. We have to keep moving forward,” he explained.

This result means that both sides must win the second leg to progress to the final. The second leg will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu on May 9.
