Bayer Leverkusen, the leader of the German Football League, maintained its record without loss, with a fatal victory over its host Leipzig 3-2, in the eighteenth stage competitions, while Borussia Dortmund swept its host Cologne 4-0.
In the first match, Leverkusen conceded in the seventh minute of the starting whistle, through Dutchman Xavi Simons, before equalizing at the beginning of the second half, thanks to Nigerian “substitute” Nathan Tella (47).
Leipzig regained the advantage with a goal from Belgian Luis Obinda (56), but Leverkusen responded through Jonathan Ta (63), returning to snatch the three points in the first minute of stoppage time, thanks to Ecuadorian Piero Hincapé.
Leverkusen raised its score at the top to 48 points from 15 wins, compared to 3 draws, after 18 stages, and only Bayern Munich, when it was supervised by the Spanish Pep Guardiola (the current English coach of Manchester City), achieved the best results in the history of the “Bundesliga”, when it won 50 points in the 2013-2014 season, and 49 points in the 2015-2016 season.
Leverkusen also did not taste loss in the 27 matches it played in various competitions this season, as it played 6 matches in the Europa League competition, and won all of them, in addition to three in the local cup.
Spanish coach Xabi Alonso’s men temporarily advanced in first place, 7 points ahead of runner-up Bayern Munich, which hosts Werder Bremen on Sunday, noting that the Bavarian club will play against Union Berlin in a postponed match from the thirteenth round on Wednesday.
In the second match, the Dutchman Donyel Malen (16 and 61), Niklas Volkrug (58 from a penalty kick), and substitute Youssoufa Moukoko (90 + 2) took turns scoring for Dortmund.
Dortmund achieved its second victory in a row, after defeating Darmstadt with three goals in the last stage, after suffering before the winter break, as it gained only 7 points out of a possible 24 in 8 matches.
