Bavarian Economics Minister Criticizes Government’s Energy Price Brakes Implementation

MUNICH Bavaria’s Economics Minister Hubert Aiwanger has criticized the implementation of the energy price brakes by the federal government. The Minister of State refers to field reports from many companies, which, among other things, are provided by the Association of Bavarian Business (vbw) were forwarded to the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Aiwanger: “The implementation of the energy price brakes by the federal government shows that the double boom has become a dud. It is as feared: the price brakes do not reach the companies. The rules are too complicated and the requirements too high. The price cap for electricity is set too high, so that the price brake often does not really take effect. Companies are therefore stuck with their high energy costs, cannot invest and lose customers. As far as they can pass on the high energy costs, this drives up inflation. Because the rules are like that are complicated, the companies have to buy expensive consulting services, which eats up a large part of the aid. The small ones who cannot afford it are left out anyway. In addition, the state aid requirements of the EU much too strict and ignore the reality of life.”

The obligation to maintain jobs until 2025 means that companies have to make provisions because, given the uncertain economic situation, they cannot say for sure how many employees they will have in the future and whether they will then have to pay back the aid. “To make matters worse, the price brakes will only run until the end of the year. But we need planning security: a viable connection solution must be created, especially for energy-intensive companies in international competition – with an industrial electricity price of no more than 4 cents per kWh – indefinitely. The federal government must react now: the companies need unbureaucratic and quick help that gets there – not a complicated law that nobody understands,” demanded Aiwanger.
