MUNICH – German football coach Thomas Tuchel will end his tenure on the Bayern Munich bench after the season.
His early departure was decided by the club’s management in recent days. Tuchel has been working in the team of the defending champion since March 24 last year and had a contract valid until 2025. The DPA agency informed about it.
“In a good and open conversation, we reached a joint decision to end our cooperation in the summer,” said the club’s CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen in an official statement.
The 50-year-old coach took over from Julian Nagelsmann, and under his leadership in the 2022/23 season, the Bavarians were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the German Cup with SC Freiburg (1:2).
In the quarter-finals of last year’s Champions League, they were not enough to beat eventual winner Manchester City. Bayern finally managed to win the title only in the Bundesliga when they defeated Borussia Dortmund in the final.

The Munich team is in danger of ending their current season without winning a title after 12 years. In the German Cup, they were already eliminated in the second round, when they surprisingly succumbed to the third division 1. FC Saarbrücken 1:2.
In the round of 16 of the Champions League, they lost the opening match at Lazio Rome 0:1. In the fight for the championship title, the Bavarians lose eight points to the leader Bayer Leverkusen after 22 played duels.
However, despite repeated failures, Tuchel is trying to bring the season to a successful end. The club has not yet announced the name of his successor.
