Barendrechts Dagblad | Almost 9 in 10 elderly people vaccinated, least enthusiasm in Urk

At least 87 percent of all Dutch people over 65 have received a corona vaccination to date. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reports that this part of the elderly has been pricked at least once. According to the institute, the actual turnout is even higher, because the vaccination data it collects centrally is not completely complete. The turnout is on average lower in the so-called Bible Belt, where relatively many orthodox Protestants live.

The provisional percentage is the lowest in the highly reformed Urk. RIVM does not provide exact figures, because data may still be missing and “a distorted picture could arise”, a spokeswoman explains. According to the preliminary counts, Urk is the only municipality in the category where only 20 to 39 percent of the over-65s have been tested.

In most municipalities in the country, more than 85 percent of the over-65s have had at least a first shot. Many municipalities in most Christian areas of the country still achieve percentages above 75 percent, according to a map published by RIVM. In municipalities such as Staphorst, Reimerswaal and Neder-Betuwe, the percentage is between 60 and 74 percent.

The figures come from the GGD as well as from the general practitioners, care institutions and hospitals that have vaccinated people. In total, this concerns more than 2.9 million people aged 65 and older. RIVM has also included anonymised data from the GGD in the figures. Some people refuse registration. If they have been tested elsewhere than at the GGD, their data is missing from the total overview.
