Barcelona will allow sunbathing for an hour on the beach from this Wednesday but not bathing | Catalonia

Barcelona will reopen the city’s beaches on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for a walk, a possibility that only residents who live within a kilometer of the coastline can enjoy. The announcement was made last weekend by the City Council, which this Tuesday has added that it will also allow to spread a towel and sunbathe, provided that the safety distances are respected and for one hour. What will not be allowed will be the recreational bath.

In the middle of the de-escalation towards normality after the peak of the coronavirus crisis, for the past week, the beaches have been open during the early morning and late afternoon for sports (running along the shore or swimming) and for any neighbor of the city, and the influx of visitors is enormous.

On Saturday, when the council communicated the conditions for the reopening of the beaches, it specified that it would be prohibited to sunbathe or remain static, but this Tuesday the Deputy Mayor for Security, Albert Batlle, answered “in principle yes” to the question of whether to would allow sunbathing. “As long as safety distances are maintained and without bathing,” he clarified.

“Just as it is stated that you cannot be static on a bench, but you can sit, it would be the same, we appeal to common sense to make reasonable use of the possibility of locating ourselves on the beaches,” said Batlle. The councilor has insisted that the use for walking is “limited to citizens who live within a radius of one kilometer.” And he recalled that the beach use strips are still in force: in the early hours it is reserved for athletes (from 6 to 10 hours), from 20 to 23 hours for federated athletes; from 10 to 12 hours and from 10 to 20 for the elderly; and from 12 to 19 for children accompanied by an adult.
