Barcelona to sue AS Roma who quit the Joan Gamper Trophy

Barcelona

AS Roma suddenly withdraw from the event Joan Gamper Trophy. As a result, Barcelona was furious and planned to sue the Giallorossi.

Roma will actually meet Barcelona at Camp Nou on August 6 in the pre-season tournament. Every year, Barcelona does double the Joan Gamper Trophy with different opponents.

For this season, the Joan Gamper Trophy is expected to bring in a lot of fans considering that Barcelona also introduces all the players for the 2022/2023 squad. Unfortunately, Roma made a surprising decision.

The Italian club decided to withdraw from the Joan Gamper Trophy on the grounds that they wanted to change their pre-season plans ahead of the start of the season.

“FC Barcelona announces that AS Roma has decided to withdraw for no reason from the Joan Gamper tournament which will be held at Camp Nou on August 6,” Barcelona said in a statement.

As a result, Barcelona had to return tickets that had already been sold due to circumstances beyond their control. This is certainly detrimental to Barcelona considering that they need income to improve their financial condition which is in disarray due to Covid-19.

Upset by the sudden cancellation of Roma, Barcelona plans to sue for damages. Because they have to find a new opponent for the Joan Gamper Trophy or it will be canceled altogether.

“The club’s legal department is studying whether there is a need for prosecution against the Italian club for the impact this has had on FC Barcelona and the fans because of this shocking and unfair decision.”

Barcelona will start the pre-season on July 4 and face a local club, before making four friendly matches in the United States. Joan Gamper Trophy held a week before the LaLiga kickoff next season.
