Barcelona finally fired Eric Abidal as sporting director. This was conveyed through the club’s official statement.
The situation in Barcelona is uncertain after closing the 2019/2020 season badly. Coach Quique Setien was fired. There is also news that there will be a squad rejuvenation.
Well, most recently Barcelona cut off the working relationship with Abidal which has been running for two years. This 40-year-old man had previously been rumored to have made a fuss with Lionel Messi.

“The club publicly thanks Eric Abidal for his professionalism, commitment, dedication, as well as his closeness and positive attitude in establishing relations with all aspects of the Blaugrana family,” wrote a statement from Barcelona on the club’s official website.
Abidal began to be appointed as sporting director in 2018. The man from France replaced Robert Fernandez who did not renew his contract.
Abidal is actually not a stranger to Barcelona. When he was still actively playing, he was a mainstay at left-back. He successfully recorded a total of 193 appearances in various events with the Catalan squad.
Abidal’s slick performance was able to help Barcelona achieve. The former Olympique Lyon man is part of the Blaugrana’s success in winning four La Liga titles, two Champions Leagues, and two Club World Cups.
So far, Barca are reportedly very close to Ronald Koeman in filling the head coach’s void. The man from the Netherlands is said to have agreed on a two-year contract.
