Corrado Barazzutticandidate for president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, he accuses the current management who, he claims, wants to boycott him by changing the rules of the statute in the extraordinary meeting of May 4th. Moves behind which the current number 1 would be, Angelo Binaghi who, thanks to the change in the law which imposed a three-term limit on the presidents of sports federations, is asking for a seventh consecutive mandate at the polls.

Barazzutti: “Rules designed to prevent me from introducing myself”
For the former Davis Cup captain, the changes – defined as “quibbles” – are intended to prevent him from obtaining the minimum number of subscriptions (341) for his candidacy to be presented. The support must be signed on a specific form which will be made available only when the elective assembly is called. In essence, the collection should be completed in twenty days, with the risk of cutting off any alternative to Binaghi.
President Binaghi needs a qualified majority
For Barazzutti, Binaghi fears that his personal popularity will balance with the objective difficulties for the re-election of the outgoing president, who must obtain a qualified majority, as required by the Fundamental Principles of CONI, implemented by the proposed amendments to the Statute. In fact, Binaghi must win two thirds of the votes in the first round, in which at least 50% plus one of those entitled to vote must participate. Otherwise, he will have to retreat.
The Federation’s response: “Everything according to the rules”
The Federation responds to the accusations by pointing out that the proposed amendments to the Statute, under discussion on Saturday 4 May in the Extraordinary Assembly, implement the legal indications and comply with the new guiding principles recently issued by CONI.
