Every effort must be made to make Russia a loser in the war against Ukraine, the Baltic justice ministers said at a press conference on Friday after joint talks.

Latvian Minister of Justice Jānis Bordāns (K) told reporters that today’s meeting of ministers is symbolic. The meeting was scheduled for more than a year, but it was the Russian invasion of Ukraine that drastically changed the issues under discussion, as the security situation in the region has deteriorated.

Bordan emphasizes that almost Nazi Russia has invaded the territory of Ukraine, threatening not only the Ukrainians but also its other neighbors.

Lithuanian Minister of Justice Evelīna Dobrovoļska agreed with Bordan that the security situation raises a number of additional issues, which were also discussed by the ministers.

Dobrovoļska emphasizes that Lithuania and the Baltic States in general need to think about what to do both in domestic and foreign policy in order to increase the level of security in Europe.

Lithuania plans to hold an ambitious conference in early May to discuss Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. The Minister expressed confidence that the most important thing was to get the perpetrators of the war punished. Dobrovolsky also emphasized the need to avoid the use of Russian war symbols throughout Europe.
