Baldur’s Gate III Collector’s Edition: From Pre-Orders to Reselling for a Hefty Profit

Running Studios began accepting pre-orders for the Baldur’s Gate III Collector’s Edition before the game became the sensation of the year and took the world, Metacritic, and Steam charts. A set with an art book, a cloth card, character cards, a keychain, stickers, a stylish die and a Mind Flayer figurine was then valued at $270. And only 25 thousand copies of the publication were released.

As gaming journalists have noticed, boxes with the Collector’s Edition predictably ended up on eBay. And there they are valued much more expensive: up to one and a half thousand dollars. Given that this is an auction, the final price may be even higher. Judging by the rates, there is a demand for a rare edition.

The resounding success of Baldur’s Gate 3 came as a surprise to Larian herself, although even during early access the game outsold previous studio projects. But the developers do not plan to develop success by making additions and, moreover, continuations: they do not want to spend another six years of their lives on one game.

Nevertheless, according to Swen Vincke, Baldur’s Gate 3 gave the studio the opportunity to continue doing what it loves.

As we already know, Larian is going to return to the series Divinity. And other companies are invited to engage in large-scale role-playing games with a single multi-hour passage and hundreds of final options.
