“Bakhmut under attack: Ukrainian forces repel Russian phosphorus ammunition assault”

“Bahmuta. Phosphorus ammunition. Pathetic scoundrels,” wrote Mariupol Mayor Petro Andryushchenko’s adviser, posting a video of the attack on Telegram. “It was the same situation in Mariupol. When they can’t do anything, they shoot with phosphorus ammunition.”

At the same time, the press service of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that their units continue to defend the city.

“The enemy used phosphorous and incendiary munitions in Bahmut in an attempt to wipe the city from the ground. We stand! But the soldiers of the Special Operations Forces, together with their service members, continue to defend Bahmut! And under these conditions, we continue to destroy the enemy.” they emphasized.

On May 5, Ukrainian armed forces reportedly repelled more than 30 Russian attacks in three directions.

Bakhmut, where about 70,000 people lived before the war, has become the epicenter of the fighting, and Russian troops and, in particular, the mercenary group “Wagner” are stubbornly trying to occupy the city. The battles for Bakhmut involve massive artillery use, inflicting heavy losses on both sides and reducing the city to ruins.

Experts do not consider Bakhmut to be a strategically important city, but Bakhmut has great symbolic importance and political weight, given the long and hard struggle for it.
