Baden-Württemberg visits Bern – travelnews.ch

Marketing Baden-Württemberg invited to Bern on November 25th. With regional food and wine from Baden-Württemberg, the guests were in the right mood for the Advent season. Ambassador Michael Flügger welcomed those present in the elegant atmosphere of the residence of the German embassy. He immediately introduced them to the history of the building. The German Embassy is the only embassy in Bern that was actually designed and built as an embassy building. Because Emperor Wilhelm II missed on his journey through Switzerland – which he was already making by train – an arrangement befitting his status. All the other embassies in the area are villas later transformed into embassies.

Even the Secretary of State Dr. Michael Rapp (Member of the Landtag), President of the Baden-Württemberg Tourism Association, welcomed the guests personally. In the end, the Swiss made up the largest visitor group in Baden-Württemberg.

From 01.10. Eleonora Steenken is the new head of tourism marketing in Baden-Württemberg. She was happy to be able to open the Advent season in the German Embassy. Last weekend, several Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg reopened after a two-year break due to the Covid19 pandemic.

Eleonora Steenken also pointed out that Switzerland is the top source market for Baden-Württemberg. As of September, 830,000 arrivals from Switzerland had been registered. 90,000 of them by train.

This is mainly due to the strong franc and proximity to Switzerland. The southern Black Forest is the most popular destination in Baden-Württemberg, followed by the central Black Forest, Lake Constance, Upper Swabia and the Stuttgart region.

Outlook for 2023

The “Taste of the South” campaign will shape the year 2023. Culinary art is the big topic in Baden-Württemberg in the coming year.

Priority:

  • Green cuisine – many restaurants have specialized in vegetarian or vegan cuisine, especially with particular attention to the sustainability of products.
  • Culinary delights: A dinner in a hot air balloon, the new Eatrenaline attraction in Europapark, are extraordinary experiences that can be enjoyed in Baden-Württemberg in the coming year.
  • Geniesserland Strange – here you can discover, among other things, the “Swabian tuna”. This is not fish, but special pickled pork from Swabian Hall pigs.
  • Urban Feasting – numerous restaurants in cities offer extraordinary gastronomic experiences.
