Bad weather: the Garonne in flood in Toulouse

the essential
The Garonne and several rivers entered in flood yesterday after the bad weather which crossed the department from south to north.

The Garonne flooded yesterday after heavy rainfall that hit the department. The Haute-Garonne has been placed in yellow vigilance. Caution is advised for homes on the edge of watercourses and for activities related to these watercourses. It is not expected to worsen in the next 24 hours or even over the weekend. The rivers of Haute-Garonne have certainly been well fed in recent days but the snow limit has fallen in altitude and the precipitation falls more into snow which feeds the rivers more slowly. The Haut-Garonnaise situation is far from knowing the gravity of that of the Basque Country, the Landes or the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, in the south-west of France.

However, the river has risen from its bed in several places, in the Comminges but also in the areas of Muret, Toulouse and in the north of the department.

In the south, in Fronsac, the departmental road 68, at the southern entrance to the town, is flooded. In Cierp-Gaud, a tree fell on a telephone pole, causing in its fall all the electric and telephone cables of the district of Gaud and rue Hourcan.

Further downstream, on the side of Salies-du-Salat, the Salat came out of its bed on the Departmental 13, towards Mazères-sur-Salat at the level of the Mengès hydroelectric power station in Salies-du-Salat. In Muret, vehicles were trapped by the rising waters on the banks of the Garonne.

In Toulouse the banks were evacuated. The Toulouse Garonne has experienced a rise in its levels all day yesterday. The maximum in Toulouse was expected overnight.

In Villemur-sur-Tarn, north of Toulouse, where the Tarn is under permanent surveillance, access to parking on the banks has been prohibited. The owners of the vehicles have been contacted to remove them.

Road obstacles disrupted traffic in Ramonville-Saint-Agne, Rieucaze, Milhas, Folcarde, Couladère, Rieumes and Saint-Génies-Bellevue.

In addition, scraping operations only in the Saint-Béat, Luchon and Garin sectors were necessary to remove the melted snow, mudslides and branches.

Two departmental roads remain closed: access to the Agudes resort for avalanche risk and access to the Portillon pass. The return to normal should take place tomorrow.
