“Bad times are good times for poetry”

This year the poet Māra Zālīte celebrated a round anniversary and this year the Poetry Days are dedicated to her, so it was a great honor to welcome the poet to Liepāja.

Turning to the gathering, the poet noted that she last visited this city a long time ago. “And that is why I am even happier to see how Liepāja has grown, how lively and lively it is. I always feel very good in Liepāja because I have wonderful memories of two theatrical productions:” Kaupēn, mans mālītais “and” The ugly duckling. “I like Liepāja because it is truly a city of culture,” she said, also expressing her excitement at being in “Great Amber” for the first time.

He opened the poetry celebration evening with the poem “Thus Spoke the Poster”, the words of which “Something will happen at five o’clock” acted as a key not only to the meaning of the common evening, but also to the revelation of the present time.

Using the words of this poem in the title of the evening, the poet indicated the uncertainty and insecurity that currently reigns in the world. “We live in a very uncertain time when we don’t know what will happen. What will happen to our planet? What will happen in Ukraine? What will happen in our apartments? What will happen to our souls?” asked M. Zālīte rhetorically.

He has read poems from both newer and older collections and has even shared unpublished verses. His poetry made those present smile and deeply moved them.

The jokes written about the war sounded completely different. Before reciting these poems, the poet shared the story of how she was moved by the work on the musical poem together with composer Jānis Lūsēnas: it was a story about Latvia’s struggles for freedom and freedom in the form of an apple orchard.

“It hurts for every young person, for every boy and especially for Christmas in Tireļpurva,” said M. Zālīte and introduced the audience to the most touching part of the evening.

The musical performance of the daughter of the poet Ilze Ķuzule-Skrastiņa and the composer Kārlis Lāčas was no less beautiful.

I. Ķuzule-Skrastiņa, who not only sang but also read poetry, pointed out that this evening is also special because it is the first time that she and her mother have read poetry together.

M. Zālīte concluded the author’s evening with poems about the end of summer and being on a journey, self-pride and strength, the pursuit of happiness. “There is an opinion that bad times are good times for poetry, because then poets have something to talk about and express their pain. I have observed that this year the Poetry Days movement is very active, both at Liepāja, Riga than elsewhere, and this is obviously pleasant “, shared his observations M. Zālīte.

“We can all be extremely happy to have Poetry Days in Latvia, which is a very important time. It reminds us at least once a year that we have to switch off the busy everyday life, sit back, stand out and enjoy a good collection of poems. , looking for new thoughts and ideas in it “, said Nauris, Deputy Director of the Liepāja Culture Administration, underlining the essence of the Days of Poetry and thanking M. Zālīte.Lazdan.

The project is financed by the Media Support Fund with funds from the Latvian state budget. The liepajniekiem.lv portal is responsible for the content of the publications.
