The office specialized in complex litigation, BACS Abogados, has decided to promote its members internally and appoint a new director for its area of law and health and two new partners, all with vast experience in litigation matters.
In the area of law and health, the lawyer will take over as director Maria Victoria Miranda Polanco. María Victoria is a lawyer from the University of Chile, a specialist in public law and has specialized studies in Gender and Global Public Policies. Before she joined BACS Abogados, she worked at the Zuñiga Campos Abogados and MOMAG Abogados law firms, and as an advisor to the National Subdirectorate of the National Migration Service.
The Law and Health area, in which she assumes the role of director, corresponds to a field of specialization in which BACS has worked for more than a decade, and which covers both access to high-cost medical technologies and legal advice before the medical praxis and other aspects of public litigation.
One of the firm’s new partners is Francisco Bassi Diaz, who was promoted from his position as director of the civil, commercial and construction litigation area. He has worked at the firm since 2014 and has extensive experience in highly complex conflicts, concentrating his practice on civil and commercial litigation and arbitration, with special emphasis on corporate disputes, civil liability and contractual actions. Francisco is a lawyer from the University of Chile (2015), obtaining his bachelor’s degree with highest distinction. In the academic field, he has been an assistant professor of Civil Law and State Responsibility at the University of Chile and a visiting professor to teach the Judicial Organization course at the Adolfo Ibáñez University. He has obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Philosophy from the University of Chile (2016) and is currently a candidate for a Master of Laws, Private Law mention, from the same university. Additionally, he has a diploma in Aesthetics and Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2019) and a diploma in Advanced Procedural Law and Litigation, from the same house of studies (2021), obtaining the award for the best student of mention in civil procedures. . He also has various academic publications to his credit.
The other partner taking over at the firm is the current director of the criminal litigation area and compliance, Jose Pedro Silva Santa Cruz, who has vast experience in complex litigation and crime prevention models for companies. José Pedro is a lawyer from the Diego Portales University (2010), a Master in Criminal Law for Companies and Business from the University of Chile (2017) and a Master in Science (MSc) in Criminal Justice Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. (2019). In addition, he has a diploma in Criminal Procedure Reform from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2014). In the labor field, José Pedro was Deputy Director of the Un Techo para Chile foundation (2011-2013), later he worked as an associate lawyer at the Rivadeneira, Zegers and Colombara law firm (2013-2014), during the years 2014 and 2018 he was an advisor in criminal matters of the Minister of the Interior and Public Security of the Government of Chile. He is currently a member and coordinator of the group of academics working on the economic crime bill (Bulletin 13204-07 and 13205-07) and which is very close to becoming law.
