Back to the future: two DeLorean found abandoned 40 years ago in a shed

For those who lived in the 80s it is impossible to mention the car DeLorean DMC-12 and not immediately direct one’s thoughts to the film saga of Back to the Future, where this vehicle functioned as a time machine. Now, in a shed of California, two models of this already mythical car were found, but abandoned almost 40 years ago. Both are from 1981, are barely used and will be sold -together- for a few $ 50,000.

Contrary to what one might imagine, the DeLorean DMC-12 models, which achieved international fame thanks to the wanderings and twists and turns in time of Marty McFly (Michael Fox) y el Doc Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), they were once a failure for the automotive industry. About 9,000 vehicles were built, but they were discontinued in 1982 when the company ended in the bankruptcy.

But now, the iconic model is back in the news as two units were found, apparently in good condition, although dusty, in a shed in the town of Lake Elsinore, in the south of the state of California, in U.S.

The mystery around them also seems cinematic, since the cars are from 1981, and since then they have been locked in that place, abandoned by whoever their owner was. And the world knew of its existence because a page of buying and selling online used objects, Marketplace, put them up for sale last week.

DeLorean Features

According to the information provided by the account of Facebook of the aforementioned company, the two vehicles are from 1981, have consecutive chassis numbers, have not moved from the shed since that year, and have an incredibly low number of kilometers traveled.

The first of the cars is complete and marks a few 2600 kilometers and the second, which is partially dismantled, only 22, according to what is indicated in the aforementioned publication. There it is also clarified that both are sold together and that the purchase offers are expected to be serious, that I dont know ask for discounts ni regateos.

Both have manual gearbox, which makes them about two seconds faster than those with the automatic alternative to reach 100 kilometers per hour.

According to the photos, one of the vehicles would have problems with its “gull-wing” door system, since in the image it is held open by a wooden board. Apparently, the hinges were bad enough in the manufactured models, which would be one of their most recurring problems.

He DMC-12 is powered by a motor PRV 2.8-liter, 6-cylinder V-engine, jointly developed by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo, hence its official name (PRV). It is mounted longitudinally behind the rear axle and develops 132 CV power and 208 Nm maximum torque, according to the Spanish media Brand.

It is expected that these two DeLoreans, once acquired and restored by whoever gets them, can be sold separately and at a price much higher than $ 25,000 each. But that won’t solve the mystery of why a car with a reputation for multi-time travel was stuck forever sometime in 1981.
