The reopening of schools does not depend on the delivery of single-seat desks, nor on the allocation of adequate additional staff, but is above all linked to the trend of the epidemiological indices, which after the increases, including the fact that the average age of the infected continues to drop, has already prompted the Minister of Health to close the discos. To this end, to make a point on the state of the art and if the rise of infections is actually compatible with the return to class of over eight million students and one million teachers and ATA staff, two important ones have been scheduled for the end of August meetings. And it is probably no coincidence that more than someone has already feared the possibility of doing postpone the resumption of lessons until after the elections of 20 and 21 September.
On 29 August the meeting of the Scientific Technical Committee
The first – always coordinated by Agostino Miozzo, an executive who assists the government in the management of the Coronavirus dossier – it will take place on 29 August – exactly two weeks before the scheduled reopening of schools – and will concern the Scientific Technical Committee.
The meeting of the experts will mainly serve for analyze the epidemiological indices of Covid-19, with a region-by-region balance on the progress of infections.
August 31 International conference promoted by WHO Europe
Two days, the last day of August, will be repeated with an international conference promoted by WHO Europe – which will also be attended by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza – which has on the agenda precisely the reopening of schools.
In this case, the goal is to give indications on procedures that can be shared, beyond the different situations of the countries of the European Union.
The CTS also meets on August 19th
Meanwhile, the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 19 August is confirmed, which will be attended by the members of the Scientific Technical Committee, which will be asked to make a new point on the measures in view of the return to school.
At the center of attention in particular there will be two themes: the use of the mask in the classroom and the indications to be adopted for the management of any cases of Covid at school, the text of which was developed by the Higher Institute of Health and which would be almost ready, including the preparation of the Covid classroom, where to place pupils with symptoms awaiting the arrival of families.
In the minutes of last August 12, the same CTS reiterated that the physical distance, intended as a minimum distance of 1 meter between pupils, “remains one of the points of primary importance in the prevention actions of the epidemic containment together with the organizational and prevention measures and protection “.
But the same CTS also clarified that “in any situations in which it is not possible to guarantee the prescribed physical spacing in the performance of school activities, it will be necessary to ensure the availability and use of the mask, preferably of the surgical type”.
Those little… exceptional cases
An eventuality, that of the use of the mask to make up for the minimum distance of one meter, which Cts himself then defined as practicable only in exceptional cases.
Cases that, however, considering the delays of the counter deliveries seaters, also admitted by the Commissioner Domenico Arcuri, and the failure to identify additional spaces, could concern well beyond the 70 thousand classes and one million pupils initially indicated by the Ministry of Education itself.
