Group leader Azarkan van Denk has been harshly attacked in the Lower House for supporting a petition calling for insulting the prophet Mohammed to be punishable. The petition was drafted two days after the murder of French teacher Paty and signed 120,000 times.
Azarkan said he found it strange that the House of Representatives condemns this petition. He condemned the timing, but the signatories followed democratic rules and you should be able to talk about everything, he said. “I’d rather have you attacked here outside the House of Representatives because you have a different opinion.”
‘Anti-social action’
Several MPs reacted furiously. “I’m white hot”. said CDA MP Van Toorenburg. She said Azarkan is playing innocence murdered. She called it “sick” to make an appeal two days after the murder to justify the reason for that murder. “This is a new knife in the back of that teacher.”
