Both teams got off to a frenetic start and TV Hüttenberg’s Philipp Schwarz only scored the opener after almost three minutes. At the start it remained level-headed and VfL goalkeeper Lasse Ludwig shone with numerous saves and saved, among other things, two penalties. The Eagles were static in the structure of the game. Offensive play was characterized by one-way passes from backcourt players, who struggled to find the right moment to finish.
Hüttenberg’s opponents did better, scoring easy goals with quick counter-attacks and temporarily pulling away at 7:11. The turning point came when captain Karl Roosna converted a shot from seven meters in the 20th minute. The Eagles convinced with a great power play and scored the goal with David Cyrill Akakpo and Max Beneke for 10:11. Just before the break, Max Beneke equalized at 15:15. Hüttenberg remained focused and went on the break at 16:17.
Cheered by the drummers of the Füchse Fanclub and by the numerous VfL fans who had gone there, Bob Hanning’s boys went into the second half much more focused. TV Hüttenberg’s Ian Weber continued where he left off before the break. He raised to 19:21, and the Eagles were way behind. Unfortunately they failed to exploit a majority situation. The negative highlight was the unconverted seven meters in the 52nd minute. But it was also the wake-up call for an exciting comeback by the Eagles, which ended at 30:31 after David Cyrill Akakpo scored twice in a row. In the end it wasn’t enough. TV Hüttenberg won 31:32 and are unbeaten for the third consecutive away game.
It wasn’t because of the background, according to the coach Bob Hanning in the following press conference. “The around 2,000 spectators certainly made this home game for VfL. The Hüttenberger’s victory is absolutely deserved. The best team deservedly won the match. I am immensely disappointed that we were unable to implement what we had planned. At the crucial moment we weren’t strong and determined enough to win the match.”

Lasse Ludwig: “The atmosphere was great, but the same can’t be said about our match today. If you miss ten chances in the end, you can’t win. We were just too careless. Of course we lack experience, but in my opinion we mainly fail because of ourselves”.
Max Beneke: “It was our turn in the second half and we were only one goal behind. We fought back a lot in the final minutes, but in the last decisive situations we only need our head and we don’t concede goals in attack.”
