Avoid a second wave COVID-19

Published this Thursday afternoon, the latest report from the National Institute of Public Health (INSPQ) shows that if the distancing measures are not respected, a new wave of hospitalizations and deaths could take place in Greater Montreal in July .

In other regions, regardless of adherence to protective measures during the period of deconfinement, the level of hospitalizations and deaths should not be a problem, we learn.

The good news is that in Laval and Montreal, hospitalizations and deaths have decreased while they have remained stable in other regions of Quebec.

According to the latest INSPQ modeling, a return to the level of contacts before confinement cannot be envisaged for the moment while the virus is still circulating. It is important to maintain the obstacles to its transmission by implementing individual and collective measures.

In his daily press briefing, Prime Minister François Legault appealed to all citizens to respect the distancing measures and continue to use the mask to avoid a second wave of COVID-19 in Greater Montreal.

Courthouses open

Justice Minister Sonia LeBel announced the gradual reopening of courthouses starting next week.

Campsites can also reopen on Monday 1er June.

Also, the Minister of Immigration, Simon Jolin-Barrette, is launching a pilot project to attract 550 immigrants annually to occupy positions of beneficiary attendant.

More than half of Laval residents recovered

Of the 5,314 confirmed cases in the Laval region, 3,095 have recovered from COVID-19 since the first case reported in Laval more than two months ago.

More than half of Laval residents who tested positive for COVID-19 are no longer ill, reveal data published by the Laval Center for Integrated Health and Social Services (CISSS).

Of this total number of cases, 57% are seniors living in closed settings and health care workers, according to data released on May 20.

The remaining 43% of people who tested positive for COVID-19 live in the community, namely elsewhere than in private seniors’ residences (RPA) or CHSLDs.

Laval experienced an increase of 45 cases in 24 hours (see other text). The Laval CISSS also confirms a total of 580 deaths. The daily report also reveals that 107 Laval citizens are still hospitalized, including 18 in intensive care.

Screening tests

Three screening clinics are open daily.

The walk-in clinic at Saint-François Arena, located on Tilly Street, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The other two clinics are located at the Pierre-Creamer and Cartier arenas and are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

People prioritized for testing are those with symptoms similar to flu or COVID-19, such as fever, onset or worsening of cough, difficulty breathing, sudden loss of smell without congestion nose and / or loss of taste.
