The Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) in Greifswald was able to detect the highly pathogenic form of the virus H5N8 in the examined chickens from a small poultry flock with six animals in the community of Tauberrettersheim. All animals in the herd were killed if they had not already died.

In order to prevent the spread of avian influenza, also known as “avian influenza” or “bird flu”, to other poultry stocks, a restricted area and an observation area have been established around the farm, according to the district administration.
