At the end of December, an outbreak of H5N1 avian influenza was confirmed in a chicken farm in Monteux. The highly pathogenic nature of the virus had made it mandatory to remove poultry from the farm and to ban the movement of birds within a 10 km radius around the farm.
“These essential measures prevented the spread of the virus“, we welcome in the prefecture of Vaucluse. It was thus decided, 60 days after the implementation of these measures and considering the absence of a new occurrence of the virus, to release all the movements of birds on the zone by a prefectoral order lifting the zone.nevertheless, the services of the prefecture recall that “the epidemiological risk linked to wildlife is still considered high in France. Cases of seagulls positive for the H5N1 virus have been noted in Drôme, Ardèche and Isère these two weeks, so it’s important that breeders and backyard owners remain vigilant.”
