Average number of new infections continues to rise, number of corona patients in hospitals rises to 1730 | Inland

The increase was expected, as the omicron variant of the coronavirus is now dominant. This variant is spreading a lot faster than the delta variant, which was by far the most common in the Netherlands in the previous months.

In the past seven days, RIVM noted 104,163 reports of positive tests. That is 23 percent more than in the seven days before. The average is rising for the sixth day in a row.

The most positive tests have been registered in Amsterdam: 1019. In The Hague, 719 residents were told that they were carrying the corona virus. This is followed by Rotterdam (653), Utrecht (347) and Almere (316).

RIVM registered 14 recent corona-related deaths.

Hospitals

The number of corona patients in hospitals has risen to 1730, according to the latest figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Distribution (LCPS). That is 68 more than a day earlier and the largest increase since December 20, when 88 more people ended up in hospital with Covid-19 compared to a day earlier.

There are 475 people in the intensive care units and 1255 in the nursing wards. That is 13 and 55 more than the day before. 20 new corona cases arrived in the intensive care units and 105 in the nursing wards. Because people from both departments also disappeared, the difference with Sunday is 68.

Last weekend, the total number of corona patients in hospitals was below 1,700, but on New Year’s Eve there were 1766.
