Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Competition for the best-selling car in 2022 is fierce. The Toyota Avanza, which has become the car of a million people in Indonesia, needs to be moved from being the best-selling car champion in mid-2022. Even though the Avanza was the best-selling car in 2021.
Different conditions immediately manifested themselves throughout the first half of 2022, Avanza had to settle for being in third place with 25,337 units sold, losing out to the Suzuki Carry commercial car which was in second place with 26,042 units. The top position is held by a car that has become its main competitor since the pandemic, namely the Honda Brio with sales of 27,738 units.
As of the beginning of the year or January 2022, the best-selling car was the Suzuki Carry PU with wholesale or factory dealership sales of 5,372 units. This figure surpasses the second-place Mitsubishi Xpander by 90 units with sales of 5,282 units.
The following month it was Honda Brio’s turn to take first place. The combined sales of the two types, namely Brio RS and Brio Satya, make this car the best-selling car in Indonesia in February 2022, or 5,576 units. Meanwhile, the Toyota Avanza was launched even further, namely in 9th position with 3,091 units.
In March it was the turn of the ‘big brother’ Toyota Innova which jumped to first place with 6,301 units sold. Meanwhile, Avanza is in second place as the best-selling car in March 2022 with 5,979 units.
In April, Avanza managed to make a comeback with sales of 5,040 units. Its competitor in second place is the small sedan Honda Brio with sales of 4,897 units.
A different fate befell the following month, Avanza sales dropped 3-fold to 1,792 units, consequently it had to be pushed up to 10th place. In first place is still Honda Brio with sales reaching 4,121 units.
This sales inconsistency forced Avanza to settle for third place in the I-2022 half year. However, towards the end of the year, this car for a million people achieved high sales several times and was named the best-selling car in July with 7,542 units, August with 7,030 units and September with 6,855 units.
This million-strong machine has begun to climb, but is still threatened by its tough rivals with the difference in sales of hundreds of units.
