The number of driver assistance systems continues to grow, but many consumers are still skeptical of fully autonomous driving.
It has been a few years since the topic of autonomous driving has suddenly met with great hype. A lot has happened since then. However, we are still far from a real “robotaxi”, that is a vehicle without steering wheel or pedals that drives completely autonomously (Level 5). It’s also of little help when a manufacturer like Tesla calls its system “autopilot,” even though it actually has nothing to do with it – and the electric car maker was also recently sued for misleading advertising.
In any case, many are still quite skeptical of autonomous driving, as reported by 24auto.de.
As US market research firm JD Power found, the willingness of drivers to be enthusiastic about ever-increasing vehicle automation is low and even declining. The main problem: people don’t really see through technology. According to the survey, 65% of consumers are unable to correctly define fully autonomous driving. For example, 56% of survey respondents consider the driver assistance systems already available today as fully autonomous technologies.
