Autonomous Community Joins Brussels Forum on Sustainable Agriculture, Future of Agricultural Industry and Environmental Challenges

The Autonomous Community is present at the annual forum that takes place in Brussels on the future of the agricultural sector, sustainable agriculture and environmental challenges. “A forum where agriculture and the environment meet for an open dialogue, and where practical cases of agricultural production systems are presented on a global scale in which the close link and dependence of agriculture with the environment is revealed” , as explained by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Francisco González.

In this edition, through different discussion tables and panelists, issues related to the current economy and its relationship with geopolitical news are discussed; the construction of a more sustainable and resilient food system, derived from an energy crisis; or how to use technology to contribute to biodiversity, among other issues.

This annual conference is attended by representatives of agricultural organizations, the administration and universities of recognized prestige in the field of sustainable agricultural production from around the world.

The Spanish delegation is made up of representatives of the sector, and specifically by the professional agricultural organization ASAJA Andalucía, the ALAS association (Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture), the Polytechnic University of Córdoba, with a chair specializing in sustainable soil management, the association Association of Agricultural Cooperatives (COPA COGECA) and the Department of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Region of Murcia, as representative of the regional Administration responsible for examples of sustainability in the use of phytosanitary products and soil fertilization.

González indicated that on this occasion, “the essential need to establish a series of environmental measures has been addressed to achieve the survival of the agricultural sector and, in this way, contribute to the establishment of the rural population. The farmer is the main interested party in the conservation of the environment and its environment, since it lives and depends on it, apart from the fact that the main function it has in society such as the production of quality food, with a total guarantee of food safety cannot be forgotten. reasonable prices and respecting the environment, as the region’s farmers always accredit”.
