Automation for tens of thousands of pallets. Kaufland expands warehouses in Olomouc for 1.7 billion Company News Olomoucká Drbna

At the end of last year, the large area of the Kaufland distribution center on the outskirts of Olomouc expanded with another extension. In the new part of the complex there is a warehouse with a capacity of over 23,000 pallet places, which serves a modern automatic system. Another hall is about to be completed, the company has invested almost 1.7 billion crowns in the area.

Kaufland operates two distribution centers in the Czech Republic – in Modletice near Prague and in Olomouc. “From a geographical point of view, it is an ideal logistics location that is able to reliably supply all 137 stores on a daily basis. In addition, the distribution centers, which currently have more than 900 employees, can represent 90% of the product range if necessary. “ said a spokeswoman for Kaufland Renata Maierl.

The construction of a new warehouse in Olomouc began in January 2020, and the so-called Hochregal (HRL), a fully automated loading system, began to be built in September. The one in Olomouc is 20 meters high and 100 meters deep. Automatic loaders transport goods – such as mineral water, milk and beer – in and out, so the goods move fully automatically.

After the opening of the second Kaufland store in Olomouc, the modernization of the original, twenty-year-old branch in Štursova Street will begin. The hypermarket near the main train station will be closed for several months, customers will also be transported from it to the new branch …

Thanks to 23,500 pallets, the total warehouse capacity in Olomouc was increased by about a third. “Hochregal will bring better working conditions for employees, saving work mainly for forklift drivers. But they will definitely not lose their jobs, because there is a long-term shortage of these employees. On the contrary. Ultimately, thanks to our strategy, we will provide work for more people in Olomouc, ” stressed Juraj Bendík, head of logistics at Kaufland CR, with the operation of the HRL warehouse being launched in November 2021.

A so-called Automatic Small Parts Warehouse (AKL) with an integrated automatic pick-up system is also under construction on site. Its capacity will be another ten thousand pallets, while this hall is also suitable for storing smaller goods that do not fill entire pallets. “These include nonfood, drugstores, groceries and other slow-moving goods. In addition to simplifying work and increasing the degree of ergonomics, there will of course be simplification of logistics processes, “ spokeswoman Maierl added.
