Austria confines all citizens who have not received the coronavirus vaccine

The sixth wave of the coronavirus is being felt more and more strongly in Europe and there are countries that have already begun to take drastic measures to try to stop them. One of them has been Austria, which this Monday has decreed a confinement for all those people who are not vaccinated against Covid-19.

In the Alpine republic, only 63% of citizens have the complete guideline against the coronavirus, so, as of this Monday, 37% must stay at home except to carry out essential activities such as shopping.

Therefore, unvaccinated people will have restricted access to bars, restaurants, pubs and leisure areas. Also to sporting and cultural events.

Record of infections

The decision of the Austrian Government comes after the country registered a record in the number of infections, with a cumulative incidence to 7 days of 633 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. In Austria there are right now, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health, 2,002 hospitalized Covid patients, 377 of them in intensive care.

According to data published this Monday by the Ministries of Health and Interior, in the last 24 hours 8,178 new coronavirus infections were recorded, somewhat less than the absolute record of 9,943 cases registered last Saturday.

Thirteen people died from Covid-19 in the same period, thus the total number of deaths attributed to the coronavirus stands at 11,515 across Austria.

Pioneering measure

This measure, a pioneer in Western Europe, will have a transition period of four weeks, during which the first dose combined with a PCR test will be sufficient to gain access to leisure spaces and services.

Experts agree that after the spike in infections in Austria are not only lower vaccination rates than in other European countries, but also a relaxation in account of restrictions and security measures.
