Medvedev, who will replace Novak Djokovic as number 1 in the world rankings on Monday, beat Japanese qualifier Yoshihito Nishioka 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Nadal prevailed against the American Tommy Paul 6: 0, 7: 6 (7: 5).
